Recently I find myself loving just a little "pop of black" in my designs. It grounds the decor and adds just a little touch of "chic" to any room. I am not talking about black and white design here (which I also love). I am talking about rooms that would read another color with just a few small elements of black in the design. Maybe it's a window casing, or a drapery rod, or a picture frame, or one or two pieces of furniture that will bring that sophisticated quality to the design. Whatever it is, I find myself drawn to those interiors that have it and I find myself implementing it in my own designs.
I hope you enjoy the inspirational photos below that illustrate this idea. Let me know what you think!

I know this story has been published by many already but I just had to post about this beautiful renovation of the Hôtel de Crillon in Paris. It is nothing short of spectacular. The hotel closed it's doors in 2013 and the team of architect, Richard Martinet, artistic director, Aline d'Amman and decorators, Chahan Minassian, Cyril Vergniol and Tristan Auer all spent 3+ years collaborating to produce interiors that honor the gravitas of the building while providing gorgeously updated and refreshed spaces.
I have always wanted to stay at this grande dame which has been located in the Place de la Concorde since 1758. I hope to check that off my bucket list someday. I am comforted by the fact that the Crillon has survived two French kings, the French Revolution, Napoleon and two World Wars. I know she will be waiting for me with open arms when I arrive.
